I. Subject: JOMY Retractable Ladder.

II. Description:

    A. General: The JOMY Retractable Ladder is a retractable aluminum ladder intended for installation adjacent to windows for emergency exit or rescue under Section 111(a) of Appendix Chapter 1. Division I. of the Uniform Building Code: Section 2 (a) of Appendix 1-A . Division I, of the Uniform Fire Code; and to provide access to mechanical equipment as required by the Uniform Mechanical Code. The ladder, in the folded position, has a smooth tubular appearance. The rungs are pivoted and, when fully opened, provide a 24-inch-wide ladder with lengths up to 30 feet.
    Fixed and mobile stile vertical members are aluminum angle sections formed from 6063-T6 aluminum alloy. In the closed position, the fixed and mobile stile interlock to form a nominal 4-inch-square tube. Horizontal rungs are 1 1/2-inch-wide by 7/8-inch-high by 3/32-inch-thick aluminum tube formed from 6005-T5 and 6005-T6 aluminum alloy. The ladder is connected to the supporting structure with 5 3/4-inch-wide by 3 3/8-inch-high by 2 3/8-inch-long aluminum U-shaped wall brackets fabricated from 6063-T6 aluminum alloy spaced approximately 3 feet 4 inches on center. The wall brackets are punched to receive one 1/2-inch-diameter lag screw or approved concrete or masonry anchor.
    B. Identification: The ladder is identified by a label bearing the name and address of the manufacturer, the logo of approved inspection agency, Underwriters Laboratories Inc., (NERQA-403) and the evaluation report number.

III. Evidence Submitted: Report of tests in accordance with U.B.C. Standard No. 33-3, internal quality control and manufacturers installation instructions.
Findings

IV. Findings: That the JOMY Retractable Ladder is recognized as a supplemental escape device under Section 111 (a) of Appendix Chapter 1, Division I, of the 1991 Uniform Building Code, and as a ladder device to provide access to mechanical equipment as required by the 1999 Uniform Mechanical Code. The ladders use is subject to the following conditions:

    1. The device may be installed only on exterior walls of buildings as a supplemental emergency exit with no recognition as a required exit.
    2. The ladders connections to the supporting structure must be designed and calculations submitted to the building official for approval for each installation.
    3. Security requirements of the local jurisdiction must be satisfied.
    1993 Accumulative Supplement of he U.B.C.: This report is unaffected by the supplement. This report is subject to re-examination in one year.
